Bachelor of Education (Arts)

Overview

Kiswahili is one of the disciplines offered by the Department of Kiswahili.  Over the years the department has contributed to national development by training manpower in the language.  Kiswahili graduates trained in the department have continued to render valuable services in the media, publishing firms and government ministries.

Fostering nationalism, patriotism and promoting national unity is the first among the eight national goals of education. This syllabus has been prepared with a view to fulfilling this goal by strengthening the teaching of Kiswahili which is our national and official language.

The following are the Kiswahili courses that are offered by the department for the Bachelors of Education;

The minimum requirements for admission to the B.A. Kiswahili Programme are as follows: KCSE mean grade C+ or equivalent KCSE C plain or equivalent Plus a Diploma from a recognized institution O Level Division II or equivalent Plus a Diploma from a recognized institution O Level Division III or equivalent Plus a Certificate and Diploma O Level Division III or equivalent Plus a three-year Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution for admissions to Bachelor of Education A Level with two principal passes (one of which must be in Kiswahili) or equivalent Higher National Diploma in relevant field with a mean grade of C in KCSE Degree from a recognized university Besides the above requirements, the applicant must have a minimum score of C+ in Kiswahili at O Level or its equivalent

In view of the importance of Kiswahili as Kenya’s national language and official language, the Department of Kiswahili is offering Bachelors of Education degree in Swahili Studies to train manpower that will be able to teach this subject at Secondary level and teacher training colleges.
