Bachelor of Education (Arts)

The aim of the Department of Kiswahili syllabus for the degree of Bachelor of Education (Arts) is to create a strong theoretical, philosophical and practical foundation in the study and appreciation of Kiswahili.  It is tailor-made for teachers. The focus is on Kiswahili literature.  This covers prose, drama, poetry and oral literature as well as stylistics and theoretical issues. The syllabus also covers issues on Linguistics with particular emphasis on Kiswahili. Areas such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics are given prominence.

Renowned Kenyan Poet Abdalla Mwasimba Passes on!

The Swahili literary world was yet again thrown into mourning Wednesday, following the death of legendary poet Abdalla Mwasimba aged 83.

His death occurred a few months after Ken Walibora, Abdalla Shamte and Euphrase Kezilihabi.

Mwasimba, who for close to 30 years revised Swahili poems for Taifa Leo, had been suffering from low blood pressure and diabetes.

His youngest son, Mwasimba Abdallah told the Nation that the poet died in his sleep at his granddaughter’s residence in Kaloleni, Nairobi.
